Governor Urmila Singh, inaugurated the 26th Annual National Conference of Indian Society for Study of Pain (SSPCON)-2011, at Chandigarh. It was organized by the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care of Post-graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research at Chandigarh (PGI). While inaugurating a three-day-long National Conference, Urmila Singh said that pain was the most common symptom for which patients had to come to the doctor. The science of pain and its management is changing at a faster pace necessitating physicians to update their knowledge and skills with such types of conferences. The Governor added that eminent national and international guest faculty participating in this national conference would help all those involved in the field of specialty of pain in updating recent advances of acute and chronic pain. She hoped that the conference would assisit pain physicians to manage pain scientifically and the conference would not only stimulate new thinking but also new action in the endeavour to work for better and heal their planet free of pain.
Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred to Dr. Virender Rastogi from Banaras Hindu University for his contribution towards medical science and pain society on the occasion.
A souvenir was also released on the occasion. Dr. K.K. Talwar, Director, PGIMER, Chandigarh detailed out the activities of three-day long ISSPCON-2011 on the occasion. Dr. Geeta Joshji, Secretary, ISSP presented the report of the Society. Dr. P.N. Jain, President, ISSP delivered his presidential address.
