The crisis in the Himachal Congress continued as factions headed by Virbhadra Singh and Kaul Singh maintained pressure tactics on the high command. Because of leadership stalemate, Congress was forced to cancel its plan to gherao the Vidhan Sabha on the opening day of the monsoon session, on August 27. Party office bearer claimed that its proposed gherao was cancelled because of the heavy rain and bad weather.
In the poll bound state, it seems that Congress is slipping into disarray and uncertainty as because of the uncertainty in rank and hierarchy, party is not taking necessary and crucial decision.
There were reports of Virbhadra’s appointment from last two days, but there was no official confirmation. AICC sources said things were being worked out and might take some more time.
Virbhadra Singh is trying to wrest the control of the party in state and pressurizing party high-command about his demands, whereas on the other side Kaul Singh is building pressure to thwart his moves. However, bowing to the Virbhadra Singh’s pressure, the Party chief Sonia Gandhi held two meetings with Virbhadra in a day and subsequently with Kaul Singh and after the meeting signal of Virbhadra Singh’s appointment were coming out, but the flip-flop and the stalemate coming out from the Delhi are sending wrong signals to party cadres. The party would have to decide while considering ground realities and ensure fighting the elections unitedly.
