Exceeding to demand of the state government, the Government of India (GoI) has approved admission to 200 students in MBBS course for the academic year 2015-16 in Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical Collage, Tanda and Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla.
The Govt of India has approved the recommendations of Medical Council of India (MCI). The MCI had conducted inspection at Tanda and pointed out some deficiencies which were rectified by the State Government. The Council also conducted another surprise inspection on 8 April, 2015 for verification of compliance before finally recommending the approval.
The state government had requested the MCI to take a decision for restoring 85 MBBS seats in two state-run medical colleges.
The number of seats in IGMC was increased from 65 to 100, while the seats in Tanda Medical College were increased from 50 to 100 four years ago. The increased seats were renewed every year. However, earlier last year, confusion persisted during counselling on the total seats sanctioned by MCI and against the counselling for 200 seats; colleges admitted only 115 students, while the fate of 85 students hung in the balance.
The state government pursued the matter of restoring the number of 100 MBBS seats in IGMC and Tanda Medical college with the Union government and finally succeeded in getting permission.
The decision would give a big relief to the parents and aspiring students of the State as they won’t need to move out for aspiring in medical profession.
