Shimla: The Virbhadra Singh cabinet was expanded today with the induction of Banjar legislature Karan Singh.
Governor Acharya Devvrat administered the oath of office and secrecy to Karan Singh as the 11th Cabinet Minister of the State in a ceremony held at Rajbhawan today. Chief Secretary P Mitra conducted the proceedings.
This is the second cabinet expansion of the Congress government, earlier in March 2013, Anil Sharma was inducted as a minister. Karan Singh was allocated ayurveda and cooperative portfolios.
Karan Singh had joined the Congress before the assembly elections in December 2012. Earlier between 1998 and 2003, Karan Singh was a state minister for primary education in the previous Prem Kumar Dhumal-led BJP government.
Vidhan Sabha Speaker Brij Bihari Lal Butail, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, Cabinet Ministers, legislature, officials amongst other were present at the occasion.
