Tapovan: On the fourth day of winter session of Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha at Tapovan Dharamshala, Congress Dalhousie legislature Asha Kumari raised the issue of reservation in educational institutions and suggested to make it on economic criteria rather than on social, class or caste background of a student.
Asha Kumari, while moving the resolution in the house, stated that the poor had no caste or creed.
Rikhi Ram Kaundal, a BJP Jhanduta (SC) legislature, who was yesterday heard of accusing senior members of the house for not giving him chance to speak as he’s from lower cast, opposed the resolution saying that the Congress member was politicizing the issue. He said that the resolution was against the spirit of constitution.
Responding to the resolution moved by Asha Kumari, the revenue minister Kaul Singh Thakur assured to consider the issue of student admissions into professional colleges on economic criteria.
After the reply of Kaul Singh Thakur, Asha Kumari did not press the issue for being put to vote and withdraw it.
