After Himachal Pradesh High Court decision against Jaiprakash Associates Limited (JAL) for violation of environmental laws and norms and resorting to “falsehood to mislead” the government for setting up a cement plant Solan district of the state, opposition Congress has targeted BJP for favoring Company over the interest of locals.
Congress Chief Kaul Singh Thakur alleged that the BJP regime had been extra magnanimous towards the JP Company as it had been granted favours in gross violation of norms. He also sought details of the total funds provided by the company to the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) and the expenditure incurred on putting up of 5,000 hoardings of its president Anurag Thakur, BJP Lok Sabha MP. Kaul Singh Thakur demanded details of funds provided by JP Associates to HPCA, headed by Anurag.
Targeting BJP Kaul Singh accused that Congress had identified 50 bighas for setting up of Central University, but BJP gave land to HPCA for construction of a five-star hotel.
Congress President also questioned Govt decision for allowing enhancing Karcham Wangtoo Power Project generation capacity to 1,200 MW despite being accused of causing immense environmental damage. However BJP blamed previous Congress Govt for it as they had changed the land use and given community land for the plant without seeking NOC from local panchayats.
Whereas CPM said the JP cement plant was a perfect example of the nexus between politicians and bureaucrats. Party alleged that the JP Company has flourished in Himachal due to the generosity of the BJP regime that has been shielding and protecting all wrong deeds of the JP group. Newly formed Himachal Lokhit Party accused the Govt for showering undue favour on the Company.
