Theog MLA Rakesh Verma has announced to fight election from Theog constituency. After the meeting with his supporters Rakesh Verma announced his interest from Theog. After delimitation Balson area has been added in Chopal constituency and in the last four assembly election Verma had got overwhelming support from this region. Earlier too Rakesh Verma has indicated to contest election from Chopal, but after his meeting with his supports, who had come in large numbers to woo him back on Theog turf, he changed his mind and declare to fight coming election from Theog Constituency.
Rakesh Verma had first elected from Theog in 1993 assembly election where he had defeated Congress stalwart Vidya Stokes. And in 1998 election he lost to her, but in 2003 and 2007 he defeated Congress opponent by a huge margin. In 1993, Verma won as BJP candidate, but in 2003 he left BJP and contested as an independent candidate. With the Balson in Theog, it was an easy turf for Rakesh Verma, but now with the delimitation effect, 2012 battle will be tuff for him. With this delimitation, Kumarsain area, which is considered as a strong fort of Congress, will give tough time to him.
