Dharamshala: The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education has imposed strict new rules on examination centres in private schools, stating that only government teachers will now hold key supervisory roles during board examinations. This decision comes after the Board received complaints regarding how examinations were conducted at private school centres in the past.

Under the revised guidelines, teachers from the same private school will no longer be allowed to serve as superintendent or deputy superintendent at their own examination centres. Instead, these posts must be filled by teachers from government schools. The move is intended to strengthen transparency and ensure impartial monitoring throughout the examination process.

Dr. Major Vishal Sharma, Secretary of the Board, said the Board has taken cognisance of complaints lodged previously about irregularities or lapses at private school examination centres. In response, stricter enforcement measures have been put in place for the upcoming examinations. “The Board will appoint superintendents and deputy superintendents at all examination centres,” Dr. Sharma said, adding that reports have been sought from all schools regarding their current deployment of these officials.

Schools that have not yet deployed superintendents or deputy superintendents have been given a short window of one or two days to make temporary arrangements. After that, only the officials appointed by the Education Board will be permitted to monitor the board examinations.

Officials said the Board will also appoint additional staff to assist at examination centres where government teachers are deployed. According to the Board, this step is necessary to prevent any possibility of malpractice and to build public confidence in the integrity of the examinations.

In previous years, if a government employee was not available to be posted as superintendent or deputy superintendent at an examination centre in a private school, the school was allowed to appoint its own teachers for these roles. That relaxation has now been withdrawn. The Board has clearly stated that appointments for these positions will be made at the Board level only.

The Board has asked all schools to promptly submit reports on the appointment of superintendents and deputy superintendents to its office in Dharamshala. With board examinations approaching, the new monitoring system is expected to be fully implemented across the state, marking a significant shift in how private school examination centres are supervised.
