Shimla: The State Government has constituted a negotiation committee to settle the matter regarding lease/rent amount of the shops in the Gaiety Theatre complex of Shimla town.
Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Shimla will be Chairman of the committee while Director, Language, Art and Culture or his nominee will be Member Secretary and ADM (law and order), Shimla and Executive Engineer, PWD, Division No. 3 Shimla Sanjay Gupta have been made members.
The negotiation committee would call the tenants and negotiate on the lease/rent amount of shops in Gaiety Theatre complex and would also recommend other terms and conditions for lease/rent forthwith.
Earlier in 2012, Gaiety Theater building was renovated and reopened in June 2009. The building structure was found structurally unsafe, and with Rs.12 crore spent to restore its original Gothic style of architecture, this magnificent building is again hosting art and culture lovers.
Named after the famous Gaiety Theater of London, this building was originally designed as the Town Hall, and was built in 1887. Originally the architectural style of the building was neo-gothic and part of a revival of Gothic Style of Architecture that was occurring in Europe and other parts of the British Empire.
