Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh congratulated Vikas Thakur for winning the Silver Medal in the 85 kg. category in the weightlifting competition of the 20th Commonwealth Games presently being held at Glasgow.
He announced to provide Rs. 10 lakh to Vikas Thakur for winning silver medal in the ongoing Commonwealth Games.
Virbhadra Singh in his congratulatory message said that the achievement of Thakur was laudable as despite injury he clinched silver medal in such a prestigious Games.
Thakur won silver medal in weightlifting in Commonwealth Games, and after Samresh Jang and Vijay Kumar, he is another sports person in the State who with his achievements has brought laurel for the country as well for the State.
Chief Minister hoped that Thakur will win many more medals in future international events and would inspire more youth from the State to follow his footsteps.
Chief Minister said that the State Government was endeavouring to promote sports in a big way and efforts were made to provide better infrastructure at grass root level.
