Shimla: The upcoming Shimla Municipal Corporation (MC) elections have become the center of political activity in Himachal Pradesh. With the BJP trying to retain power in the city and the Congress attempting to regain control, the political parties are leaving no stone unturned to woo voters.
Congress Himachal in-charge, Rajeev Shukla, hold a press conference on Friday and challenged the BJP to contest the Shimla MC elections on their own merit and work, not on the popularity of Prime Minister Modi. Shukla accused the BJP-led “triple engine government” of failing to bring development to Shimla and instead making it a “concrete jungle.”
Shukla emphasized that Congress has done significant development work in Shimla, which the BJP has undone. He further added that the BJP should base their campaign on their own work and not Modi’s popularity.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also supported Shukla’s statement and promised to rejuvenate the city and bring back its lost pride. He pledged to rid Shimla of the “wire mesh” that has plagued the city.
As the political parties gear up for the Shimla MC elections, voters are hoping for a constructive campaign that focuses on the issues that matter to them. The Congress is confident that their developmental work and promises of further rejuvenation will sway voters in their favour.
The BJP, on the other hand, has a tough task ahead of them, as they try to retain their hold on the city. With the Congress challenging them to fight the elections on their own work, the BJP will have to come up with a strong and viable campaign strategy.
The Shimla MC elections will take place on May 2nd, and the results will be declared on May 4th. It remains to be seen whether the BJP will take up Congress’ challenge and contest on their own merit or rely on Modi’s popularity to win the elections.
Meanwhile, the BJP has launched an all-out effort to win over voters in the Shimla MC elections, with top leaders of the state, including Union Minister Anurag Thakur and former CM Jairam Thakur, pressing hard to regain control of the city.
