Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has announced a cash prize of Rupees six lakh to Samresh Jung for winning Bronze Medal in the team event of 10 meters Air Pistol shooting in 17th Asian Games at South Korea recently.
Congratulating him for the feat, the Chief Minister said that Samresh Jung who belongs to Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh has brought laurels to the State and the people of the State were proud of him.
Earlier, in the 2006 Commonwealth Games, he won five gold medals, one silver and one bronze medal and since then there was no looking back for him.
Born on 5 May, 1970 Samresh Jung is an Indian sport shooter and an air pistol specialist.
Chief Minister said that many players from Himachal Pradesh had brought laurel to the State and the people of the Pradesh were proud of their achievements.
Vikas Thakur (weightlifting), Ajay Thakur (Kabaddi), Deepak Thakur (Hockey), Vijay Kumar (Shooter), 20 years old Akriti Heer who scaled Peak Elbrus in Russia recently and many other younger sportsperson in various field had held the State in high esteem at National and International level.
The Chief Minister said that State Government was committed to create better sports facilities for the budding players of the State. Efforts were afoot to create stadiums to meet the required National and International Standards.
The Government was promoting the rural games in a big way and more infrastructural facilities were being created for strengthening the rural game activities so that more and more students represents the State in National and International Sports events.
