Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has rejected the proposal of Telangana Forest Minister Jogi Ramana to build a memorial for the 24 engineering students from Hyderabad, who were drowned in the Beas river, at the accident spot.
Virbhadra Singh, while talking to the media, said that Beas tragedy was gruesome, but Himachal Pradesh can’t allow building a memorial. However, they can put up a plaque in their memories, Singh stated.
Chief Minister said the government has gone out of the way to retrieve the bodies. He said that the government has taken all necessary steps to excrete bodies from the river and around 800 people, including divers, were continuously searching for bodies near the Pandoh dam.
Earlier, on Monday, Jogi Ramanna, who is camping in Mandi to oversee the search operation, has proposed to build a memorial at the accident site.
