Rahul: (June 1) Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) candidate Jai Ram Thakur filed nomination papers for the Mandi Parliamentary Constituency by-poll.
National vice-president and state party in-charge Balbir Punj, Rajya Sabha member Shanta Kumar, leader of opposition Prem Kumar Dhumal, national party leader JP Nadda, party state president Satpal Singh Satti and most of party state leaders along with thousands of party supporters including women were present at Mandi to witness the nomination event.
After filling nomination, BJP leaders addressed party workers and supporters at Seri Manch, Mandi. Most of party leaders addressed party workers.
Jai Ram Thakur is a known face in state BJP and was associated with the party from student politics. He is a sitting MLA from Seraj constituency in Mandi district, which he had won record four times. Thakur had also remained as the most non-controversial and acceptable party president from 2007 to 2009.
Congress candidate Pratibha Singh has already filed her nomination for the Mandi by-poll. Another person Ajay Rana S/O Shri Bhim Singh Rana resident of near PWD Rest House, Sundernagar, District Mandi has also filed his nomination papers for the Mandi Parliamentary by-poll.
The last date for filing nominations is June 5, and counting of the votes will be held June 27.
The Mandi parliamentary constituency, which includes 17 assembly segments of six district Kullu, Mandi, Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti and some areas of Chamba and Shimla districts, is second largest constituencies in the country.
