After several eyewitnesses confirming that the driver of the bus was talking on his mobile phone when the bus mishap, which takes about 40 lives, Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) Managing Director-cum-Transport Director Onkar Sharma issued a directive to regional transport officers (RTOs) to impound buses of drivers using mobile phones while driving and who did not have valid driving licences.

Using mobile phone (with headset free) while driving is already a punishable crime in India and police can even impound vehicle. However many drivers can be seen frequently using mobile handset. Police will have to deal strictly with the offenders.
