State Government spokesman said that assessment of apple crop was being done every year by the Horticulture Department and it was assessed at regional level at different phases.
He said that the assessment was made twice, once at the time of flowering and thereafter in the month of May during the growth phase of the fruit. He said that the final assessment was made after the ‘drop’ in the month of June.
He said that Horticulture Department had assessed production of 4,32,444 metric tonne apple production during the year 2012-13 whereas actual production recorded was 4,12,395 metric tonne. Similarly, there was production of 2,75,036 metric tonne apple in the year 2011-12 whereas 2,87,901 metric tonne was assessed was presumed. He said that there was only minor difference between the assessment and actual production of apple crop.
