Shimla: An introductory workshop on National Vocational Education Qualification Framework (NVEQF) was organised here today by H.P. Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission in coordination with All India Technical Education Council, New Delhi.

While presiding over the workshop Chairperson, H.P. Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission Sarojini Ganju Thakur, said that there was demand of skilled professionals in various professional sectors in which Government and private professional training institutes can play a vital role. The State Government was taking effective steps for providing quality, vocational education so that employment and self employment avenues could be generated for the youth at larger scale.

She said that State had taken steps to maintain the quality of vocational education and special emphasis was being given on strengthening the working of private institutions. She added that National Vocational Education Qualification Framework has been introduced in order to formally integrate vocational education together with its current conventional educational streams across school and higher education.

K. Sanjay Murthy, Secretary, Higher Education said that Industrial Training Institutes were being opened in the State to give boost to vocational education. The State has identified 100 schools where vocational education would be started in the coming academic session from 9th to 12th standard. He said that initially training would be imparted in Information Technology and Automobiles etc. He said that Rs. 40 crore would be spent on starting vocational education in schools.

Dr. S.S. Mantha, Chairman, AITCE gave a detailed presentation on NVEQF. He said that there were around 10,000 ITIs in the Country out of which 4000 were in government sector. Dr. Manoj Chauhan, Secretary, HP Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission conducted the proceedings. Dr. J.B. Nadda, Member of the Commission presented the vote of thanks.

The Workshop was attended by the Vice Chancellors of Private Universities and Vocational Training Institutes across the Country.
