To improve Shimla-Hamirpur National Highway No. 88, the World Bank has sanctioned Rs 600-crore. Under this, the NHAI will widen and improve the 147-km road.
The NHAI has already done some preliminary work on this project after getting the nod from the World Bank and has submitted a project report in this regard.
The Shimla-Hamirpur highway is one of the busiest Highways in state and is a lifeline for people of the lower areas. Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra and Chamba districts are connected with Shimla by this road and with the better road connectivity it will serve better.
The cost of the project has been pegged at about Rs 600 crore, which includes land acquisition, widening and strengthening of the road and construction of various bridges from Shimla to Hamirpur.
