Himachal Pradesh experienced 23 per cent excess rains during the month of April this year and mercury stayed below normal throughout the month. Director Shimla MeT station Manmohan Singh said that hilly state received on an average 72.9 mm rains against normal rainfall of 51.1 mm with Una and Chamba districts receiving 196 and 194 per cent excess rains.
The tribal districts Lahual and Spiti and Kinnaur had 33 per cent and 16 per cent deficient rains. Chamba and Una received 150.3 mm and 50.9 mm of rains against the normal rainfall of 51.2 mm and 17.2 mm respectively while the state capital Shimla had 73.3 mm of rains against normal rainfall of 48.3 per cent.
Mandi received 89 per cent excess rains (91.2 mm), followed by Hamirpur, Solan, Bilaspur and Sirmaur which received 62 per cent (43.9 mm), 59 per cent (44.4 mm), 51 per cent(39.4 mm) and 43 per cent(29.2 mm) excess rains respectively.
