Maharana Pratap Sagar popularly known as Pong Dam has received around 1.30 lakh migratory birds of 90 species from Siberia and Central Asia during this winter. This number is likely to touch a record 1.5 lakh this year as temperature and weather is supporting them. In the fear of poachers administration has tightened the security of in and around pong Dam. The staff remains extra vigilant and night raids are conducted. One Van Thana in Nagrota Suriyan, the head quarter of Pong headed by Range Forest Officer has been exclusively set up to deal with the poaching cases in the lake.
The pong dam is a home for the more than 230 species and it’s emerging as a major attraction for the tourist, so that government is making sincere efforts to develop the site to bring it on the national map of tourism in coming years.
