Chairperson, H.P. Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission, Sarojini Ganju Thakur stressed upon the need for making Himachal Pradesh an educational hub and preferred choice of students from within and outside the State for achieving qualitative higher education. She said it in the meeting of the commission. The focus of the meeting was on “Building a Vision for Private Universities for Higher education” in Himachal Pradesh.
She said that firm commitment was required to achieve the goal of providing quality education and we all should together aspire to provide value consistent higher education set up. She stressed upon the need for complete transparency in admission procedure and strict adherence to norms established by Central Regulatory Bodies like UGC and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Even though AICTE normally does not have jurisdiction over the Universities this should not be a cause for any slackness in adherence to the norms, she added.
Thakur indicated certain priority issues for consideration in the current and following academic year, showing a fair and transparent admission process, appropriate infrastructure and qualified faculty. Vice Chancellors/ Registrars of 12 Private Universities established in the State, Secretary, Higher Education, Director, Higher Education, Technical Education and Medical Education were also present in the meeting. The Vice Chancellors gave a brief presentations about their vision for their respective universities and their present status.
