Himachal Pradesh government has initiated a probe into the alleged irregularities involving the opening of numerous private universities in the state and has started verification of private universities’ land records.

To find out the real picture, Govt. officials are checking the records and also conducting physical verification of these universities. A couple of days before, Kadaghat tehsildar has visited the campus of a private university located on the outskirts of Shimla to check the land details. University authority has claimed that its records were correct.

Congress Party had maintained that private universities were open in the state in complete violation of norms. Even some universities were allowed to buy land beyond permissible limits in violation of section 118, party leaders further alleged. Party leaders alleged

in the name of universities, shops are being opened and these private universities would later turn into real estate or tourism business as the BJP regime had allowed change of land use after 25 years

Congress leaders has demanded to increase in change of land use period to 50 years to protect the interests of students.

Policymakers had also raised questions over the infrastructure and lack of qualified staff in private universities and thus now probe team is looking into all the necessary points of investigations. Besides infrastructure created by each university, faculty available with them are under probe to find out which university is seriously into teaching business and which are the universities opened for the purpose of diversifying land use into some other business.
