Palampur: CSK Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University marked its 13th Convocation today. Governor Acharya Devvrat, who is also Chancellor of the University, presided over the sacred function. Brij Bihari Lal Butail, Speaker H P Vidhan Sabha, was Chief Guest of the occasion.
The convocation was held in a simple dress code, which is a first time in a history of the University.
The Governor conferred degrees to 12 Ph.D; 112 Masters & 222 Bachelor’s. For the first time, the University conferred the degrees with QR coding.
In his address, the Chancellor exhorted the scientists to help farmers with useful technologies so that they become prosperous which will make all healthy and the State will also prosper.
Governor Acharya Devvrat said that women were excelling in every field and should come forward to participate in agriculture activities in order to strengthen the sector with their contribution. He said that agriculture sector could witness a revolution if women participated in farming activities as they were not only hard working but also proving their worth in every field and making the country proud.
He urged girls to take up studies related to agriculture in universities and equip themselves with knowledge regarding farming activities and specialized techniques for effectively contributing towards the sector.
Governor urged the farmers of the state to adopt traditional and organic farming to enhance the quality of their produce and to get better prices in the market. He also advocated to adopt traditional practices and added that efforts should be made for preservation and conservation of indigenous seeds. The Governor called upon the scientists of the University to hold camps across the state to educate the farming community about organic and traditional farming and added that special awareness should be generated for adopting zero-budgeting for improving the existing agriculture practices in the state.
He also asked the scientists to conduct intensive research and develop new techniques besides improving the existing ones especially in organic farming. He said the research conducted in laboratories should reach the fields and farmers. He also stressed upon upon improving the indigenous cow breeds.
The Governor planted a sampling of Rudraksh near Auditorium of the University.
BBL Butail decorated twenty two (22) meritorious students with Gold Medals. He congratulated the degree recipients and called upon them to work dedicatedly for strengthening the state and put their knowledge for improving the farming activities in the state.
