Himachal Pradesh’s Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau has got permission to prosecute BJP legislator and former minister Rajeev Bindal in an alleged corruption case of appointments in the Municipal Council of Solan when Bindal was its chairman.
The vigilance bureau has registered a case against Bindal Dec 1, 2006 under sections 420, 468, 471 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code and section 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The home department had kept the case pending during the BJP regime despite the vigilance bureau seeking sanction to prosecute him.
Rajeev Bindal is considered a close confidant of former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and even holding the health portfolio, during BJP regime, Bindal was one of the controversial ministers. Even a section of BJP had leveled serious corruption allegations against him and demanded his resignation to project a clean image of the government ahead of assembly elections that year. Main opposition Congress had also demanded his resignation from the cabinet and even boycotted house many times.
