Nurpur: The Himachal Pradesh government has declared to rename the Nurpur Chaugan after Shaheed Wazir Ram Singh Pathania, a great warrior from Himachal Pradesh, who fought tooth and nail with the British army for the cause of motherland.
Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, while addressing a public meeting at Nurpur, said that stadium would be developed on modern sport lines after keeping needs of the local people especially the youth in mind. He assured to provide liberal funding to build the stadium.
He said the state government had spent over Rs. 59 crore to develop sports infrastructure in the last four years and Rs.8.32 crore for holding various sports activities in the state.
Virbhadra Singh announced construction of playgrounds at Akhla Muari, Kopra, Garli Khad, Sulaili, Kadroh and Kamnaloh and Kushti Akhara (wrestling ground) at Lamba Nallah to be built at a cost of Rs.10 lakhs to promote sport activities in Nurpur area. He expressed hope that the youth of Nurpur area would earn laurels for the state in the times to come.
The Chief Minister said that 85 meritorious sportsperson were employed in different departments of the state government.
