Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet, in its meeting today, expressed solidarity with chief minister Virbhadra Singh.
All cabinet ministers, except health minister Kaul Singh Thakur and industry minister Mukesh Agnihotri, attended the meeting. The statement issued by the government read
The Cabinet passed a resolution reposing full faith in the leadership of Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. It was noted that the clamour by Members of BJP for the resignation of Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh is not only absurd but also exposes their utter disregard for the Rule of Law. Instead of showing respect and trust in the law and justice system of the country, some leaders of BJP, having no popular support, seek to circumvent the legal process to dislodge a democratically elected popular Chief Minister. It is quite obvious that they have realized that it would not be possible for them to attain power through democratic and electoral means. The Cabinet noted that cases in question pertain merely to financial returns and despite the Income Tax Department already ceased of the matter, with the sole objective of harassing Shri Singh, the cases are being investigated by three central agencies namely Income Tax Department, CBI and ED which was highly condemnable. Such high handed and illegal tactics would be out rightly rejected by the public of the State. It is most unfortunate and regrettable that a few leaders of the national party in power at the Centre are advocating such undemocratic practices. The only sane and mature response should be to allow the law to take its own established course. Attempts to subvert the legal process and to destablise the popular democratically elected government are condemnable and would be strongly resisted by the people of the State.
The cabinet also decided to hold monsoon session of H.P. Vidhan Sabha with effect from 22nd August to 27th August, 2016 having five sittings in total.
