Himachal Pradesh CPM has ridiculed the Congress President statement over the alleged irregularities and inaction at Maharishi Markandeshwar Medical College and Hospital Solan, and advised him to stop shedding crocodile tears over it.
Demanding CBI enquiry into the allegations, CPM leader Tikender Singh Panwar, in his press communiqué, expressed surprise at the recent Congress President statements of constituting a committee of senior party leaders to look into the shortcomings of MMU. Panwar blamed
“The government not only allowed their fees structure which is exorbitantly high, probably highest in the country, but allowed a nominee of the state in the MCI who happens to be a professor in MM University Kumarhatti also. Hence, the Congress government was hand in glove with the University and the credence of their statement is highly doubtful”
Panwar rued that the two Government Colleges in the state were robbed of a legitimate increase in MBBS seats whereas the MMU was given a green signal for an increase to over 150 seats. despite the fact that they are lacking infrastructure.
Tikender Singh Panwar claimed that MMU had misrepresented facts of its affiliation and admitted 150 students in the first batch of MBBS. He questioned that why Congress leader has failed to expose the MMU.
CPM leader has blamed both the BJP and Congress for MMU fiasco. He claimed that the state government had granted Essentiality Certificate to Maharshi Markendashwar University Trust on August 24, 2012 and on the basis of that, the MCI had granted “letter of intent” to the Trust to set up a Medical College at Kamarhati on July 12, 2013. Intriguingly, two days later, the MCI issued the “letter of permission” to Secretary Maharshi Markandeshwar University Trust, Ambala for establishment of a new Medical College at Kumarhatti even though the letter was issued to the Trust, the approval by the Board of Governors of MCI was granted for setting up the Medical College by MM University, which CPM leader termed as a big scam. Panwar said
“When the College applied to the MCI for letter of permission for 150 MBBS students in the first batch ,it maintained that the College is affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University, but after the approval of 150 seats was granted by MCI, the websites of the MMM College and MCI showed that the College was affiliated to MMU private University, interestingly, in the same batch, the College applied to Department of Health on July 22, 2013 for approval of fee structure and admission procedure which is applicable only to those colleges which are affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) and their exams are also conducted by HPU”
Tikender Panwar claimed that MMU management, while applying for the essentially and feasibility certificate, had agreed to be affiliated to the HPU with condition of 50 per cent quota to the government. However, after getting the MCI permission, the MMU management tried to wriggle out of the conditions mentioned in the Essentiality Certificate to fill the seats in a “non transparent” manner by skipping counseling by HPU, and intriguingly, it got the permission from the government and now charging hefty fee from students.
