Acting tough on the Jaypee cement plant, Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (HPSPCB) has directed it to stop over-production with immediate effect.
To ensure compliance of the orders, the Pollution Control Board, after a high-level meeting chaired by its chairman Kuldeep Singh Pathania, directed executive engineer (electricity), Solan, to ensure supply of power to the cement plant for permissible limit only.
Jaypee was granted mining permission for 2.05 million tonne of clinker and 2.87 million tonne of limestone, but as per findings, the company went beyond the permissible limit without taking any prior approval.
After finding violation, the HPSPCB has issued directions to the company under Section 33A of Water (prevention and control of pollution) Act, besides Section 31A of Air (prevention and control of pollution) Act, and also directed mining department to take appropriate measures.
Pollution Control Board has also taken a tough stand on other Cement manufacturer Ambuja cement and issued a show-cause notice, asking why the plant should not be closed for violating norms. The Ambuja Cement plant was found running an extended section without seeking prior approval from state government.
