Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today dedicated the Government Degree College, Shillai in district Sirmaur to the people of the area constructed at a cost of Rs. 14 crore. He also announced to open the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate at Shillai in next financial year for facilitating the people of the interior areas of the district and to avail administrative services nearer to their homes.
Addressing a public meeting at Shillai, the Chief Minister said that a girl’s hostel having capacity to accommodate hundred girls would be constructed at Shillai to benefit the girl students of far-flung areas studying in Shillai College. The boy’s hostel and residential accommodation for teaching staff and employees would also be constructed in the next phase, he added.
He said that post graduate classes in Hindi and English subjects would be started in this college from next academic session along-with science classes at graduate level. He directed the education department to fill up vacant posts of physical education and music teachers in the college.
Virbhadra Singh also announced to open Primary Health Centre at Naini Dhar in Shillai area. To accelerate the construction work of Laldang-Shillai-Rohru National Highway, he also promised to establish Sub Divisional office of the National Highway would at Kafota. A vegetable market would also be developed at appropriate place to provide better marketing facility to the farmers of Shillai area. He directed the Marketing Committee to conduct survey for identifying a suitable land so that construction work of the vegetable market could be taken up at the earliest.
The Chief Minister said that inquiry would be conducted in the matter of anomalies in compensation to the affected families of Renuka Dam project and it would be ensured that the original owners of the land could get their due share.
He said that State Government had formulated a work plan to connect all villages with road facility to enable the farming community to transport their produce to the markets. The Government was committed to provide all basic amenities like roads, health, education and drinking water to the people of the State upto grass root level.
Virbhadra Singh said that added attention was being given to strengthen the health services in the State and female doctor would be appointed in every Primary Health Centre, Community Health Centre and Civil Hospital to facilitate women folk of the rural areas. He announced Rs. 25,000 for promotion of cultural activities in the college.
Harshwardhan Singh Chauhan, Ex MLA welcomed the Chief Minister said apprised him of the various demands of the area. He thanked the Chief Minister for announcing SDM office at Shillai and providing liberal financial assistance for various developmental works.
