A Spokesman of the State Government said that the organizers of Indian Premier League (IPL) had not been exempted from entertainment cess and the same was being charged from them @ 10 percent. He said that Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner, Kangra had been authorised to collect the mandatory entertainment tax as per provisions.
He said that the news appeared in a section of the press that Himachal Pradesh has suffered a loss of Rs. eight crore due to exemption of entertainment cess to IPL organisers was not based on facts.
He said that the State earned income during IPL matches as people from various parts of the country as well as abroad come to see the IPL matches and spent on eatables, stay and purchase of various items on which various taxes were being paid by them.
