Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress protested against recent railway fare hike. Hundreds of youth congress workers under the leadership of State Youth Congress President Vikramaditya Singh have staged a protest at Shimla Railway station and raised slogans against the government decision of increasing the railway fare and freight charges.
Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress Office bearers have also blocked the train at Shimla railway station.
Addressing protesters, Vikramaditya Singh said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his election campaign, had promised to bring Ache Din to the people of India and within a month he has betrayed the common people by increasing the railway fares. He has demanded the Union Government to re-look into its decision of fare hike, which will have adverse impact on the prices of pulses, fruits, vegetables and other essential commodities.
Vikramaditya said that Indian Railways ferries 25 million people every day and it is the lifeline of the country and the principal mode of conveyance for the common people. The common man of the country feels cheated today as the BJP had promised to bring down prices and get the common man rid of hardship, he believed.
He added that before the Union Budget, the government is also planning to give another bitter pill to “Aam Aadmi” by increasing the prices of Sugar to the tune of Rs. 5 to 6 and LPG.
Later Youth Congress activists marched to Shimla Deputy Commissioner Office and sent a memorandum to President of India through Deputy Commissioner.
