HP Irrigation and Public Health Minister Ravinder Ravi told Vidhan Sabha in reply to a query that as per a survey conducted by Guru Nanak Dev University, the uranium content in groundwater in Himachal Pradesh is not at alarming levels and maximum concentration of the yellow metal in the state was recorded at 37.40 ppb (particles per billion) in a Kasol village.
Minister added that as per the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board of India, uranium in the groundwater beyond 60 ppb is alarming and as in Himachal there is no health hazard associated with uranium, the government is not planning to take any precautionary steps.
