The anti-Virbhadra Singh camp in the state Congress is working hard to stall the proposed appointment of a working president. It has told the high command that such a move before Assembly elections may prove counter-productive.
Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Kaul Singh met AICC general secretaries Janardhan Diwedi and Birender Chaudhary and discussed the appointment of working president in poll bound state. Sources says that Kaul Singh was clearly miffed over the possibility of the appointment of a working president, he tried to impress upon the high command that he was working to bring the party back to power in the state. It was also learnt that the anti-Virbhadra Singh faction had also told the high command that the move could trigger resignations by office-bearers who supported Thakur.
Leaders belonging to anti- Singh camp had got in touch with their supporters to get District Congress Committee chiefs and Block Congress Committee chiefs to resign in case a working president was appointed. The suspense over the appointment of Gangu Ram Musafir as working president continued even as functions were being planned to welcome his appointment.
However earlier reports suggests that Musafir appointment was almost final and it was for the AICC chief’s final decision, but after the pressure tactics from anti-Singh camp and Kaul Singh, now it seems that party high-command is avoiding taking any step, which can further divide the party in state.
