Online Portal to Regulate Mining Activities; 80 New Mining Guards to Enforce Stringent Measures under Mineral Policy-2024

In a bid to clamp down on illegal mining and bolster revenue, the State Government has greenlit a new Mineral Policy for the year 2024. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced today that the new policy prioritizes the use of scientific and mechanical techniques for mineral extraction while ensuring stringent measures for environmental preservation.

“The Mineral Policy-2024 aims to promote sustainable mining practices and create more job opportunities for the people of the State,” stated Chief Minister Sukhu. Additionally, the policy will establish transparent and efficient governance through the development of an integrated online portal to regulate mining activities and streamline administrative procedures.

“This policy underscores our commitment to maximizing state revenue while combating illegal mining activities and safeguarding the mineral wealth of the region, fostering an environment conducive to the scientific extraction of mineral assets,” remarked Chief Minister Sukhu. To ensure effective implementation of the policy, the government plans to recruit 80 mining guards in the Department of Industries.

Chief Minister Sukhu also highlighted the government’s successful efforts to boost revenue from existing resources, resulting in an additional Rs. 2200 crore generated. The auction-cum-tender process for liquor vends has particularly proven to be fruitful in enhancing the state’s revenue. “We will continue such auctions of liquor vends in the future, building upon the success of previous initiatives,” he affirmed.
