Shimla: For the Shimla Municipal Corporation 154 candidates in 34 wards have filed their nominations. On the last day for filling nominations, 116 candidates filled their nominations, whereas 10 nominations were filled on day one and 28 nominations on day second.
Nine candidates have filled their nominations from Ward 13, whereas eight each candidates have filled their paper from Ward 26 and Ward 27. In Ward 14, 22 and 25 seven candidates each have filed their nominations.
Six nominations each were filed from Ward 2, Ward 4, Ward 7 and Ward 33, while two candidates each have filled their nomination from Ward number 16 and 20.
The last date of nomination withdrawal is June 8. Returning Officer Rohan Chand Thakur disclosed that election rehearsal will be held on June 7 at Government Senior Secondary School, Portmore School, Shimla and RKMV, College, Shimla.
Thakur directed all officials and employees, deployed for the election duty, to be present for the rehearsal.
Seventeen wards have been reserved for women, including three for Scheduled Castes women, and three wards for Scheduled Castes men. The post of mayor is reserved for Scheduled Castes women.
The civic body elections are not being fought on party symbols. Congress has abstained by announcing any official candidate, while the CPM and BJP have released their lists.
