After much political drama, the State Election Commission has finally notified the Election Programme for the conduct of General Election to the Municipal Corporation of Shimla today. The election will be held on 16 June, 2017 from 8 AM to 4 PM.
Nomination papers will be filed on 2nd, 3rd and 5th June, 2017.
Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on 6th June, 2017 (10 AM onwards) before Returning or Assistant Returning Officers and withdrawal of candidature can be done on 8th June, 2017 before 3 PM. The symbols will be allotted to the contesting candidates immediately after withdrawal of nominations on 8th June. Election symbols will be allotted by the Commission not on the choice of contesting candidates.
Counting will be held on 17th June, 2017 at district headquarters.
Model Code of Conduct for the election of Municipal Corporation, Shimla will come into force with immediate effect i.e. 29th May, 2017 within the territorial jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation, Shimla till 17 June, 2017.
Earlier Today, the Himachal Pradesh High Court has directed the State Election Commission to announce elections to the Shimla Municipal Corporation within 24 hours and ensure that the new house is in place by June 19.
