Senior BJP leader and Union Rural Development Minister Gopinath Munde died in a road accident in Delhi today. He was 64.
Munde was on his way to the Delhi airport to go to Beed, his Lok Sabha constituency, for a victory rally, when his car met with an accident at around 6.20 this morning in the Moti Bagh area of the capital. Munde is survived by his wife and three daughters, one of whom is an MLA from Parli in Maharashtra’s Beed district.
Prime Minister Narender Modi, his cabinet colleagues and other political leaders across party line including Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi expressed deep grief over his death. Prime Minister said
Extremely saddened & shocked by the demise of my friend & colleague Gopinath Munde ji. His demise is a major loss for the Nation & the Govt. Gopinath Munde ji was a true mass leader. Hailing from backward sections of society, he rose to great heights & tirelessly served people. My tributes to a dynamic leader whose premature demise leaves a void hard to fill. Condolences to Munde ji’s family. We stand by them in this hour of grief.
Himachal BJP leaders including leader of opposition Prem Kumar Dhumal, state party president Satpal Satti, Narinder Bragta, Ganesh Dutt, Suresh Bhardwaj, Shanta Kumar, Virender Kashyap and others also expressed their grief over the untimely death of Gopinath Munde. BJP leaders stated that Munde’s Demise is a huge loss for nation.
Himachal Pradesh Governor Urmila Singh and Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh also expressed grief over the demise of Union Minister. Governor said that Goipnath Munde always worked for the common man throughout his life. Chief Minister said that he was saddened due to untimely demise of Munde, adding further that he was a dynamic mass leader.
