To end the Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) financial crunch, outgoing vice-chancellor Prof ADN Bajpai has suggested a fee hike.

In a press briefing, which seems his last as Chief Minister has denied second term for him, revealed that the annual expenditure of the university is between Rs 110-120 crore, while the government grants are pegged at Rs 69 crore and the revenue generated by the university is Rs 30-35 crore, leaving a huge deficit of Rs 12-15 crore.

For better academic environment on the university campus Bajpai suggested banning of students elections and also emphasized on the need of complete ban on university teachers participating in active politics. He suggested amending the university constitution for banning teachers from contesting elections to parliament or the state assembly.

Prof Bajpai also denied all charges of corruption and wrong doing that are being leveled by agitating students.
