New Delhi: Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dhani Ram Shandil urged the Central Government for making amendment in the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act, 1989 for protecting the interests of weaker sections of the society.
Speaking in the conference of Ministers of the States at New Delhi today, he said that to ensure social and economic development, these sections of the society should be given equal opportunities. He said that these sections had remained backward so special attention should be given for ensuring their welfare. He said that 105 cases of atrocities on SC and ST were registered in the State and were monitored at different levels.
Social Justice and Empowerment Minister supported the proposal for increasing the compensation amount being given for cases of atrocities on SC and ST. He said that State Government was committed for welfare of these sections of the society and Government was implementing various social and economic upliftment programmes for these sections.
