Competitiveness is the key to have best for the Country and everyone has to raise their level of competence especially in the field of trade. This was stated by Dr. Shrikant Baldi, Principal Secretary, Finance while presiding over the training workshop on ‘WTO and International Trade Issues’ which was held in Himachal Pradesh Institute of Public Administration here today in collaboration with Centre for WTO Studies, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi.
Dr. Baldi said that there was considerable empirical evidence that exports boost the economy of the State through increased employment, higher wages and additional income generation. He said that Himachal Pradesh had vast potential of apple export as the apple produced by the growers of the State was of good quality. He stressed the need for transparency in trade and added that same rules were must for developing countries.
Dinesh Malhotra, Director, Himachal Pradesh Institute of Public Administration said that local economy should be much stronger and our products should have the quality to compete due to globalization. He said that apple needed to be declared as a special product which would give boost to the economy in the State.
Prof. Sajal Mathur from Central for WTO Studies, New Delhi stressed on the need of institutionalized interaction between the States and Centre for issues regarding trade. He said that Himachal Pradesh should have GI for apple and mango fruits to realise better prices. Senior officers of the State Government, participants from Universities were also present on the occasion.
