26th June, 2012 will be absorbed as International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit trafficking in the State. This was revealed by the Chief Secretary, Sudripta Roy while presiding over the meeting of High Powered Committee on Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (ND & PS) here today.
The Chief Secretary said that awareness programmes like seminars, workshops and exhibitions would be organized to mark the occasion.
It was revealed in the meeting that 191 cases have been registered against unauthorized cultivation of cannabis and poppy in the State and 93 vehicles had been impounded for illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
The Chief Secretary stressed upon creating awareness about adverse effects of drugs especially to the younger generation so that they may not fall prey to it.
P.C. Dhiman, Principal Secretary, Home detailed the progress about decision taken in the last meeting to control drug abuse. P. Mitra, Saroj K. Dash and T.G. Negi, Additional Chief Secretaries, Pr. Secretaries and senior officers attended the meeting among others.
