West End Tobacco Company, which had undertaken bidi manufacturing work in Hamirpur district, has reportedly vanished without paying wages to its employees.

The company was started by a Kolkata-based entrepreneur who hails from Hamirpur district, had started manufacturing bidis in 40 centres in the district in August 2011. It is reported that since then the company has not made any payment to its laborers involved in rolling bidis.

Employees of the company met the Deputy Commissioner Hamirpur and demanded his intervention in the matter. Workers said that the company has stopped the production and for the last six months they have not been paid their salaries.

On the other side, the founder proprietor of West End Tobacco Company, Poonam Chandel said on the phone from Kolkota that she had left the company in November 2011 and Swaroop Dutta is the new Director.
