In the report on state PSUs tabled in the Assembly it is learned that the cumulative losses of 25 public- sector undertakings of the Himachal Pradesh government is Rs 1,660 crore till March last year. The State Electricity Board is topping the list with losses amounting Rs 894.15 crore. Electricity board has 25,000 employees.
The losses of Himachal Road transport Corporation (HRTC), which has fleet over 1,200 buses, mounted to Rs 573.79 crore, followed by Financial Corporation (Rs 117.48 crore), Agro Industrial Packaging Ltd (Rs 77.80 crore), HPMC (Rs 55.28 crore), Forest corporation (Rs 31.66 crore), Handicraft and Handloom Corporation (Rs 21.06 crore), HP agro-Industries corporation (Rs 19.32 crore), Milkfed (Rs 18.39 crore) and Tourism Development corporation, which claimed that the annual tourist arrivals in the state crossed the 1.5 crore mark in 2011, has cumulative losses of Rs.16.94 crore.
The Himachal Housing and Urban Development Authority (HIMUDA) was the only undertaking to earn cumulative profit of Rs 127.66 crore, while the State Civil supplies corporation and Ex-Servicemen Corporation earned marginal profits of Rs 18.95 crore and Rs 13.33 crore, respectively. The Forest Corporation earned profit of Rs 9.97 crore during 2010-11.
