Government to open 68 Adarsh Vidyalayas, NCERT textbooks in HP Education Board-affiliated schools

Dharamshala: Taking u-turn of the major pre-poll announcements of abolishing controversy ridden Rashtriya Uchchtar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), the BJP led state government has announced not to discontinue the system owing it a Union Government scheme.

State Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj, while interacting with Press personnel at Dharmashala, stated the state government isn’t capable of abolishing the RUSA as it is the Centre’s scheme. Bhardwaj further said that the committee was formed to review the system and on the basis of that certain steps would be taken to improve the system.

Abolishing RUSA was one of the major pre-poll announcements of the BJP, and its leaders had accused the system for spoiling the future of the students and promised to abolish it immediately after taking reign in the state.

Govt to open 68 Adarsh Vidyalayas

Education Minister reiterated state government commitment to improve the quality of education in the state’s government schools. Bhardwaj revealed to set up Adarsh Vidyalayas, or model schools, in the state’s 68 assembly constituencies.

Bhardwaj stated that ten of these model schools will be opened this year and a provision of Rs 25 crore has been made and the local legislature will be mentors of the schools, the minister further added.

The minister also assured to take step to bring the syllabus of the HP Education Board-affiliated schools on par with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). He also assured to use NCERT textbooks.

Responding to the media query on controlling fees of private schools, the education minister revealed of seeking legal opinion to bring the fees under control.
