Under the state-wide campaign against narcotics, the Himachal Police has claimed of uprooted opium and cannabis plants from as much as 13750 bighas of land throughout the State.
Chief Secretary VC Pharka, in a video-conferencing meet with all the Deputy Commissioners and Divisional Commissioners, today, directed to adopt pro-active approach and wholly come out to make this campaign a success. He appreciated the efforts undertaken by various Deputy Commissioners and Divisional Commissioners and expressed satisfaction the way the campaign was moving in the State.
It was also decided that action would be taken against field revenue officers, including panchayat secretaries, beat constables, patwaris and forest guards if any plant of cannabis or opium was found in their respective areas after the campaign finishes.
The state government has waged a State-wide campaign against narcotics, and in a joint efforts of police and civil departments including teams of Narcotic Control bureau (NCB) assistance is also being sought from various departments like Forests, PWD, Panchayats, Revenue, NGOs, NCC, NSS, Mahila Mandals and Yuvak Mandals to eradicate and destroy the weed and root out this menace from the society. Moreover, day to day monitoring is also being done and reported to the Chief Minister’s office.
The Campaign was launched on 22ndAugust and would last till 5th September, 2016.
Direction has been issued to completely dispose them after uprooting and nodal departments have been directed to focus on the areas where the menacewas assuming serious proportions.
Secretary, Rural development and Panchayati Raj Onkar Sharma, IG Police Zahur Zaidi and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
