Shimla: To take stock of the steps being taken to tackle the situation of jaundice in Shimla town, Health Minister Kaul Singh Thakur today held a high level meeting of the senior officers of Health and Irrigation & Public Health departments and Municipal Corporation.

The Minister claimed the situation was under control and the concerned departments and Municipal Corporation has taken effective steps to check further spread of jaundice.

Thakur said that IGMC and Deen Dayal Upadhayay hospitals providing facilities of free medical tests and medicines for jaundice.

Kaul Singh Thakur said the priority had been given by the Government to supply clean and safe drinking water to the residents. All the major water storage tanks had also been cleaned and water was being chlorinated on regular basis.

The minister directed the concerned departments to work in coordination to tackle this situation and asked the Irrigation and Public Health officials for random testing of water from Kandaghat laboratory.

He directed the Municipal Corporation to ensure to connect all households with sewerage lines so that leakage of polluted water from the septic tanks to the water resources could be checked. He also urged the residents of the town to clean their water tanks on regular basis.

In Shimla town over 820 jaundice cases has been reported and one person lost his life due to this disease. The Shimla MC has constituted seven teams for the four wards where cases of jaundice had been reported.

The Shimla MC has taken action in 107 cases where people had not connected their sewerage line with the main line.

The Shimla administration has issued advisory and advised locals to use boil water. Administrations has also directed hotels, restaurants and other eateries to sue boiled water.

Additional Chief Secretary Health Vineet Chawdhary, Director, National Health Mission, H.P. Hans Raj Sharma, Director Health, Safety Regulation Rameshwar Sharma, Director Health Services Dr. D.S. Gurang, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Shimla Pankaj Rai and other senior officers attended the meeting.
