Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh inaugurated the Sombhadra festival at Una today by participating in Shobha Yatra from Nagar Parishad Park to Indira ground. The Chief Minister, who headed from Ahmedabad in Gujarat after participating in investors meet, reached Una to participate in the Shobha Yatra of Sombhadra Utsav and marked its opening despite his busy schedule.
The festival named after Sombhadra River, now known as Swan is also associated with the formation of the district in 1972 and showcases rich cultural heritage of the district besides being historical.
The Chief Minister was given a very warm welcome on reaching Una. Industries Minister Mukesh Agnihotri also accompanied the Chief Minister from Ahmedabad to make sure that he joins the opening of the historical fest.
Earlier, the Chief Minister performed the foundation stone laying ceremony of Rs. 88 lakh Swan Flood Monitoring Centre at Ghaluwal in Una district, the first of its type in Himachal Pradesh connected with Satellites and Radars to monitor the river flow during monsoons and the expected rainfall. This is a part of Rs 922 crore Swan project being implemented in Una to chanellize river Swan and its 73 tributaries.
Kuldeep Kumar, Chairman, HP State Finance Commission, Virendar Dharmani, Member, State Tourism Development Corporation & president Distt congress, Director Kangra Co-operative Bank, Rajeev Gautam, Deputy Commissioner Abhishekh Jain, SP Anupam Sharma and senior officers of the district were also present on the occasion amongst the dignitaries of the town.
