The Municipal Corporation Shimla organised a day long Consultative Workshop for school teachers under the European Union funded project ‘’Strengthening and Empowering Urban local Authorities in the delivery of Decentralized Sanitation Services”.
The workshop was organized at Rotary Town Hall, in which 57 representatives of different schools from Shimla marked their presence.
The Deputy Mayor of Municipal Corporation Shimla Tikender Panwer inaugurated the workshop. Dr. D.P. Singh, Project manager of the project, apprised the participants about the ongoing activities under European Union funded Capacity Building project of MC Shimla.
The Project Implementing Unit (PIU) of European Union project had conducted Environmental School Surveys for 118 schools in Shimla, on which Meera Sharma, Social Coordinator of the project, gave detail presentation to the participants.
Dr. Omesh Bharti, Corporation Health Officer gave a presentation on the Solid Waste Management system in Shimla and role of SEHB Society.
Dr. D. P Singh, while speaking at the workshop, highlighted the need for decentralized sanitation services as a solution to tackle the problem of waste management and sewerage treatment in the hilly town like Shimla.
To ensure active participation of children, he suggested imparting regular environment education in the form of lectures in the school and advocated to start giving technical guidance, hands on training and practical recycling of the waste training to the children at school level.
Participants appreciated the project and ensured full cooperation for its implementation.
Deputy Mayor also started a Signature Campaign “Green Force of Shimla”, which was signed by the all participants.
