Deputy Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India Sandeep Saxena today held a meeting with the District Electoral Officers, Superintendents of Police and other officers of Shimla, Solan, Kinnaur, Sirmaur district to review poll preparedness for the ensuing Vidhan Sabha elections in these districts.
Saxena directed the officers to ensure strict implementation of election rules and regulations during the entire election process with complete transparency and efficiency.
He took stock of the poll preparedness and also gave the necessary directions. He directed to take necessary steps for maintaining law and order during the election process besides generating awareness regarding use and maintenance of VVPAT machines amongst the common masses and officers and employees deputed in the election duties.
He asked to make proper arrangements for providing basic facilities to the voters near polling booths and organize awareness camps to motivate the voters for exercising their franchise in large number to increase the polling percentage. He added that it should be ensured the model code of conduct was not violated at any cost during the entire process.
To facilitate the media persons during the process of general Assembly elections, the Election Commission established a Media centre at State Election Commission. Commission also made telephone number 2622611 functional at the centre.
