Shimla: The CPM believes that human rights violation graph was exceptionally high in Himachal Pradesh. CPM leader Rakesh Singha, on the occasion of 68th Human Rights Day, stated that Govt was drubbing workers’ genuine demands as creating law and order problem.
Singha highlighted the plight of construction workers at Shongtong Karcham Hydel Project, and claimed that innocent workers were being languishing in prisons for only demanding the implementation of law, minimum wage for work, safety measures in the tunnels, proper living conditions, providing wage slip, social security measures under the EPF Act etc.
Singha stated that labour Deptt. has registered 94 cases against the company and contractors for violation of labour laws in the project. Cases against contractors for not abiding by the provisions of the EPF Act are also being registered by EPF commissioner, and even than authority has failed to take any action against the guilty.
Complaining the termination the services of 900 workers, CPM leader claimed that contractor terminated the services only to evade the liability fixed by the High Court as it directed the company to implement all laws and pay the dues to the workmen within three months’ time i.e by 20th Dec. 2016.
